The OneMillion Lives program by Mapubi is a transformative initiative committed to improving healthcare across Africa. With a focus on life-saving interventions, this program aims at reaching one million people over the next decade through targeted health campaigns, education, and innovative medical solutions. By addressing the critical challenges of healthcare accessibility, especially in remote and underserved regions, the initiative works to close the gaps in preventive care, early diagnosis, and medical outreach.
This program targets promoting access to decent healthcare, especially for women, children, and rural communities. Through its projects SmartMobileClinic and OctobreRose, Mapubi has trained over 100 healthcare workers to use digital tools to enhance decision-making during healthcare consultations in rural areas.
Furthermore, the projects have helped over 5,000 patients, especially women and rural communities, to receive adequate treatment. The project SmartMobileClinic is an emergency system for young doctors and nurses in rural areas, where they receive support and consultancy from more experienced doctors, usually based in cities.
Projects
Octobre Rose is a health awareness campaign dedicated to educating women about breast cancer prevention, early detection, and access to screenings. Breast cancer remains a leading cause of mortality among women in Africa, often due to late diagnoses and limited awareness. This initiative seeks to change that by providing free screenings, training healthcare professionals, and engaging communities in discussions about prevention and treatment. The campaign also encourages physical activity as a means of reducing cancer risk and promoting overall well-being. Events such as the ‘Pink October – Health for ALL’ race/walk serve as both a platform for awareness and an opportunity to raise funds for cancer research and treatment support.
The Smart Mobile Clinic is another project of the OneMillion Lives program, designed to bring healthcare directly to communities that lack access to medical facilities.
One of the defining features of the Smart Mobile Clinic is its use of technology to enhance healthcare delivery. Telemedicine services connect patients in rural areas with specialists, ensuring that expert medical advice is accessible regardless of location. Digital health records streamline patient management, improving continuity of care, while portable medical devices enable on-site diagnosis and treatment. These innovations make healthcare more efficient, sustainable, and adaptable to the needs of different communities.
