Why Cameroon?
Classified as a developing country and a member of the African Union (AU), and of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), Cameroon is one of the poor countries of Africa. Almost half of the population lives below the poverty line. Cameroon ranks 150th in the world for human development (UNDP index) out of 162 ranked countries and where life expectancy peaks at 58.9 years. Access to health care remains disparate depending on whether one is in urban or rural areas. We chose Cameroon because Cameroon, Nigeria, Togo and Ivory Coast are the focus countries of Mapubi e.V. We would expand the project to the other project countries if we have a good impact in Cameroon and the right partners to deploy on these other locations.
How will the implementation of the Smart Mobile Clinic project go?
As this is a pilot project, with the help of our implementation partner HERO Cameroon, we are implementing the project in 10 chosen villages in the regions of South West. Littoral, Center and South Cameroon. We plan to train around 30-50 healthcare workers working in the communities on how to make use of the support center we are creating to share knowledge with other doctors and take a better care of their patients.
